Revolutionising a villa in Western Liguria
Nestled in the heart of a pine forest and perched on a hillside, this villa overlooks the sea like the bow of a ship
The garden and terraces have been reimagined to infuse fresh energy into this "buen retiro" (peaceful retreat), surrounded by lush Mediterranean flora. Indoors, the focus was on creating a sense of expanded space and openness.
A NEW CONCEPT
As generous as the outdoor space was in the original design, it lacked the usability we have achieved with the new concept and the comfort provided by the new materials.
THE DINING AREA
The new design now allows for a dining area adjacent to the house, which can be protected from the sun by an electric awning when required.
THE INTERMEDIATE TERRACE
Slate stone seating with outdoor fabric cushions and Leolori armchairs characterise the central terrace overlooking the guest annex to the home.
THE MAIN TERRACE
Descending the stairs, you are greeted by the main terrace, on which Kos's Wide Tank, delivered by helicopter, has a prominent place, as the villa is only accessible via a series of steps.
THE ENTRANCE
Part of the entrance staircase was repurposed to extend the floor space, creating the perfect spot for a custom-designed low cabinet with a vertical wand. With its discreet mini spotlights, Flos' Zero Track lighting system illuminates the area without drawing attention to the fixtures themselves.
THE LIVING ROOM
The living room opens directly onto the outdoor DINING AREA, with the Akupanel portal and a large wall of illuminated niches serving as standout features of the interior design. iGuzzini's Laser Blade optics provide precise lighting, discreetly recessed into the ceiling.
An ethnic-oriental ambiance, created through a thoughtful selection of materials, London Art wallpaper with hints of the Orient, and a collection of objects gathered from the owners' travels, seamlessly blends with the exterior, evoking the feeling of a home transported to an exotic seaside destination.
THE MASTER BEDROOM
The master bedroom, though compact, was optimised by adding a large storage wall behind the bed. This clever solution provides ample storage without taking up floor space. A sleek illuminated niche, finished with a metallic lacquer, breaks the uniformity of the doors, resembling a recessed sculpture.
